UNNAO DISTRICT

Economic Governance and Financial Inclusion

In the field of economic governance, areas such as fiscal management, revenue management, financial inclusion and so on address the economic management of the government. Unnao district made commendable efforts to provide financial services such as payments, savings, and loans to the low-income people and deprived section of the society at an affordable cost. All the banks organized branches, stalls and camps from time to time for the promotion of Jan Pradhan Mantri Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana and to reach maximum beneficiaries. Continuous collective efforts were made by all the banks of the district.

By the year 2022, 290,565 beneficiaries were covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, 673,846 under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and 81,107 beneficiaries under the Atal Pension Yojana. Furthermore, 1,011,547 accounts were opened in the district under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and these efforts still continue. In the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23, under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, the district distributed loans to about 1,879 beneficiaries and collected 2,467 lakh rupees.

The project further envisioned achieving financial inclusion in the district by making the people financially literate. From time to time, the lead bank of the district, Bank of India, along with other banks in the district organised credit outreach campaigns. These campaigns allowed more beneficiaries to be financially included and benefitted by various schemes launched over the years.

The Bank of India also appointed a Financial Literacy Counselor (FLC) to look after the promotion of financial literacy in the district. Their main purpose was to make rural people aware of financial inclusion through camps. As a result, about 48 camps were organised by the FLC in different villages of Unnao district.

With the initiation of Reserve Bank of India, the district opened three centers for financial literacy with assistance from Bank of India and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), as they promoted the concept of financial independence and conducted awareness sessions on financial literacy.

As a result of the successful implementation of this project and various financial schemes in the district, small financial needs of the people were easily met and the tendency of saving also increased among the people.
